Meeting the Writing Requirement

There is one writing course required for all economics concentrators on the basic track, and two writing requirements for those who choose to pursue the Advanced Course Track (see Requirements).  Thesis track concentrators meet the second writing requirement with the completion of their thesis and participation in the 985 thesis seminar.  Alternatively,  if they drop the thesis mid-year and divide 985 with credit, they may meet that second writing requirement with the 25 page paper due at the end of the first term of 985.  Courses offered that meet the writing requirement generally have a research paper due at the end of term.  Some courses have an optional final paper which can meet the writing requirement.  In such cases, students must have the professor sign the optional writing form contained in the link below, and turn that form in to Emily Neill in Littaer 113.  Students may take a writing requirement course Pass/Fail with the permission of the Professor (as is the case for all courses taken Pass/Fail), however, please be aware that if your paper is graded below a B-, you will NOT receive writing credit.  Please see the list below for current course offerings that meet this requirement.

All sophmores will also learn about how to do research in economics in their sophomore tutorials (EC 970), though this course does not count towards the writing requirement.  You will receive a bound copy of Writing Economics in that tutorial.  The guide is also always available here: WritingEconomics.pdf
